DLA, Masons, Eversheds on Manchester Uni firm panel

The University of Manchester has unveiled its new legal panel, appointing DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary for the first time and reappointing Eversheds and Pinsent Masons.

This is the university's first legal panel since the completion of its merger with the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (Umist).

Addleshaw Goddard, Halliwells and Pannone & Partners are understood to have been dropped by the university.

Eversheds has worked with the university for decades and recently advised it on the merger. Pinsents was also on the old panel and will be hoping that its own merger with Masons will help it grab a high proportion of legal work on the university's post-merger construction programme.

The other big practice area is HR. The university employs more than 9,000 staff. IP is dealt with by a standalone limited company, which is also advised by Eversheds.

The three firms have been appointed for all practice areas for a period of three years. If all goes well, then that period can be extended by another two years.
