I'm sure you must have heard
I know it's downright absurd
THat our economy is going down
And it's hard not to frown
I'm only in my teens, you may say
However, we too feel dismayed
Now there's this economic barrier
Stopping us from reaching our dream careers
On Saturdays, with our usual 'gang' we used to enjoy
Our 'teh tarik', roti canai at the mamak stall
Now it is cutting back on any fancy eating
And coming home to dear mother's cooking
Going shopping, our favourite pastime
This year, 'aiyah' mother says to for every dime
No more CDs, computer games, Nike shoes
Buy Malaysian, they say to give the economy a boost
It used to be hours of chatting
On the IRC until the wee hours of the morning
Now it's with purpose the Internet we're using
Instead of idle chatting or surfing
To show your love, it was at least a dozen roses
To be considered a fitting Valentine offering
Now it is a single stalk that is everlasting
And is that all she is expected to be recieving?!
There's even talk of sugar shortage
That brought on a panic and what a rage!
Isn't it ironic, in a country with sun and rain
And ample space to grow sugar cane!
The share market is dropping, the ringgit falling
Those who are behind payment, the banks are coming a calling
Houses being repossessed, cars are being towed away
Is this all for real, you may say?
Economist are scratching their heads in debate
Dozens of theories to postulate
How are we to survive the coming years?
That is the 'BIG' question - compounding fears
As we look at our time of lavish spending
Not it's time for belt tightening
Let's make do and embrace frugal living
But most of all, be thankful we are still alive and kicking!
Proud to be Malaysians are we
Carving a niche in this world we want to make them see
Equipped with pride and harmony
We vow to go through this state of economy
